Sridevi's comeback film "English Vinglish" will clash with Kareena Kapoor's much talked about "Heroine" at the box office as both the films are coming out Sep 21. The former's producer R. Balki is unperturbed.
Both are women-centric films - but after much deliberation, "English Vinglish" co-producers Balki and Eros Entertainment have decided to stick to the original release date.
While "English Vinglish" is directed by Balki's wife, Gauri Shindi, while Madhur Bhandarkar wielded the shot for "Heroine".
"We believe every film, no matter what the gender of its protagonist, has its own audience. I am sure Madhur Bhandarkar's film ('Heroine') will be very exciting. But the prospect of seeing Sridevi again is equally exciting," said Balki.
Having had his say, Balki is now ready to move into the shadows, and "let the two ladies have their say".
"I have done what I had to. I'm just the film's producer. Now it's up to Sri and Gauri to take the film to the audience," he added.
Interestingly, "English Vinglish" has a cameo by Bollywood's Amitabh Bachchan and he did it free of cost.
"With Amitji, I wouldn't dare to discuss money," said Balki, who directed the megastar in "Cheeni Kum" and "Paa".
Come September 21 and Bollywood would be a battleground for the divas. Buzz has it Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘Heroine’ is slated to release on the same date as Sridevi’s comeback film ‘English Vinglish’ and Preity Zinta’s ‘Ishq in Paris’, Zee News reports.
It’s apparent that the release of three big ticket movies on the same date ie September 21 would hamper each other’s business in various proportions. Incidentally, Kareena’s birthday is also on the same day. Hence, it has been learnt that Sri Devi’s ‘English Vinglish’ producers Eros International are reconsidering their decision. If insiders are to be believed, Sridevi may have to bow out of the race. According to a source close to the production house, Eros is now looking at an early October release for their venture. “They want to postpone the release of ‘English Vinglish’ by two weeks,” said the source. But the director of the film Gauri Shinde`s husband R Balki said everything is going `as planned`.
“Eros may announce a new release date soon,” added the source. As for Preity`s film, it will in all probability hit the theatres alongside Kareena`s ‘Heroine’. “Among the three female-oriented films, ‘Heroine’ is definitely in most demand considering Kareena enjoys more Box Office clout currently. Sridevi`s comeback is meant to be a special event. It has been in the pipeline for years. The makers of ‘English Vinglish’ naturally don`t want to get into a three-way battle at the Box Office,” said a source.
So, now it’s just Preity pitted against Kareena. Let’s see who wins. daily times monitor.
