It's been nearly a week since the curtains came down on the IIFA awards 2012 and the discussions on hits and misses are still on. We aren't talking of the nominees and the award winners. From the moment the stars stepped on the green carpet on three consecutive days — for the premiere of Shanghai, for the IIFA Rocks fashion extravaganza and the final awards night — the fashion fraternity has been dissecting who turned up at their best and who turned out to be a fashion disaster.
Broadly, you could divide the style statements into three categories — a group that endorsed black and gold, black and red and complete black outfits (think Usha Uthup, Sameera Reddy and Vidya Balan); a group that chose subtle pastels (Priyanka Chopra in a Dolce and Gabbana outfit) and muted white and gold combination (Shriya Saran in an outfit by Manish Malhotra, Dia Mirza in a sari sourced from Hyderabad and Raveena Tandon) and finally, the group that lit up the green carpet in bright, neon shades.
The third group was the dominant of the lot with many actresses opting for fuchsia pink, burnt orange, canary yellow, parrot green and deep purples. Kalki Koechlin was radiant in a Victoria Beckham fuchsia gown for the awards night. Fuchsia was the colour for Preity Zinta as well and she picked an outfit by Ramona Narang.

Aditi Rao Hydari brightened up the proceedings in a flaming orange dress while Chitrangada lived it up in an orange and gold outfit. Parineeti's outfit by Jatin Varma in deep purple reminded us of a similar outfit worn by Sonam Kapoor at an earlier event. Sridevi made a late entry in a canary yellow sari designed by Manish Malhotra. Flaming red was the colour for both Bipasha Basu and Nargis Fakhri. For Bipasha, it was a Gauri-Nainika dress while Nargis chose a Christian Dior gown.
The anarkalis were clearly on their way out with fewer celebs being spotted in them. Gowns were the most popular choice followed by saris. Casually worn side-braids and hair extensions were the popular hairdos.
The biggest letdown on the green carpet was Vidya Balan. Moving away from Sabyasachi Mukherji, she had opted for a black sari by Masaba. Unfortunately, the sari seemed to weigh her down and her makeup didn't help either. Considering that Vidya usually looks ravishing in a sari, her green carpet look left much to desire.
